Thalasso is a Norwegian-Mexican cooperation project with a blue economy approach.

Our main objective is to harvest sargassum; an invasive seaweed threatening the Caribbean region.

We turn this hazard into an opportunity through autonomous harvesting drones that can be remotely controlled from the beach – or anywhere in the world – and a network of micro-biorefineries, which turn the seaweed into numerous products that will improve our planet’s health.

Planblue was founded in 2017 by two former marine scientists and two engineers to enable high-quality seafloor mapping, inspired by satellite technology. Based in Bremen, Germany, the company now has over 20 employees located all over Europe. Funded partially through the ESA BIC program, an EIC grant, and Climate-KIC, planblue has completed campaigns around the globe, all with the express goal to highlight the ecologic and economic importance of the seafloor.

At planblue, we strive to combine scientific rigor and ground-breaking technological advances to revolutionize seafloor monitoring for the 21st century. Currently, as a first step, we are focusing on developing a methodology to accurately estimate the carbon stock of seagrass meadows, in order to introduce much needed transparency into the emerging blue carbon market.

Ships around the world use toxic paints to prevent the growth of mussels, barnacles and algae on the hull. These toxic paints dissolve in the oceans, annually spreading 100 million liters of biocides and microplastics.
Finsulate has developed a non-polluting alternative and is marketing this product internationally in yachting, commercial marine and offshore wind markets. Based on biomimicry, we apply a self adhesive film with a skin of fibers. The product does not dissolve and lasts at least 10 years which is unrivalled in the industry.
